With the advancements in the engineering structure (high rise building and heavily loaded structures) the concrete filled steel tubular members are found to be most efficient. This is seen from a voluminous research and structural evidences around some parts of the world.From 1960s the engineers of advanced countries are studying CFST members for its effective use in the engineering structures. Many experiments have been performed under CFST columns but code have been arrived for its effective use. Even though from sixties, there are a few use of CFST members in high rise buildings and heavily loaded structures in different parts of the world like USA, UK, Japan, China, etc. Their used were made from research (experiment) data without the benefits of code. This paper presents the advents of CFST columns in structural design and construction, a brief note on design method, made a comparison with RCC columns.
