EXTRAORDINARY MAGNETO RESISTANCE
Data handling is one of the major challenges currently faced by the technological world. It is a major issue in terms of storage capacity and in read-write speeds. But the technology to increase storage capacity has been somewhat solved out as new and advanced technologies are introduced to solve this problem. But the problem of read- write into these ultra high density storage disks at good speeds is a major problem. With the current technology which is available now, however large the storage capacity be, the amount of data which can be read or written into the disk has a limitation. This limit now a days is 13Gb/sq. inch. So the hard drive storage density has to be limited to that extent. The storage density cannot be increased even though the technology to do so is available because of the read head limitation. Here comes the importance of extraordinary magnetoresistance. This property makes it possible to create hard disks of high density storage, because by using this property it is possible create read- write heads which can access the data from the high density storage disks which in normal case would not have been possible. Using this property, magnetic sensor read heads can be made which has a sensing capacity upto 1000 GB/sq.inch. This sensing capacity is very high compared to the normal maximum sensing capacity of 13 Gb/sq. inch. The introduction of this technology can solve the problem of data handling to a large extent. In the present world scenario this technology is a much awaited one as it can really revolutionize the data handling speeds. Extraordinary magnetoresistance is that property of material which exhibits dramatically high levels of magnetoresistance.
