Flashing earring heartbeat monitor
An earring that flashes in synchronism with the wearer's heartbeat is introduced.The light emitting source flashes once for each heart beat A pulsed IR LED with photocell combination is built into an earring together with a comparator and a light-emitting source like an LED. The comparator determines the heart beat from the variation in the signal from the photocell and delivers a signal to a solid state switch which in turn turns on the light source. This used conveniently for medical monitoring of patients.

Many types of heartbeat monitors have been built. These include pressure monitors and the simplest being a finger pressed against an artery. The main principle use here is that Infrared light will travel several centimeters through typical human skin tissue. Its absorption is much greater in blood. A photocell placed against the skin near the IR LED measures light scattered from or transmitted through the skin which varies as the blood flows in the tissue near the photocell and the IR LED with each heartbeat of the person. earlobe is chosen to place the IR LED/photocell instrument because the carotid artery supplying blood to the brain runs close to the ear. Signals from the photocell are typically transmitted to a comparator, which calculates the rate of heart, beat and the resulting rate is displayed on a monitor.

5)analyzing circuit for analyzing the electrical signals to detect heartbeat of the wearer.

7)trigger circuit for initiating electrical pulses to cause light emitter to flash with each heartbeat.
pulse power source is used for producing electrical pulses at rates of at least 10 Hz so that IR pulses are emitted at 10 Hz.analyzing circuit includes integrated circuits for converting electrical signals from photo-detector into waveforms corresponding to heart beats.circuit also compares waveforms to a reference signal to initiate electrical pulses to produce flashes.analog-to-digital converter to produce digital signals corresponding to detected pulse and a microprocessor analyzes this digital signals.The device has a software which calculates average values of pulse amplitude and counts pulses having amplitudes in excess of this average values and then directs trigger circuit to initiate the flash.
