Touch screen Technology
touch screens are becoming more popular because they make the user interface more exciting and intuitive.There are three basic systems used in screens to recognize your touch and at the writing of this article, infrared technology is making its way as the fourth system as well as others in development for different scale products. Touchscreen The kiosks, which are installed in malls, community centers and in government buildings, are an effective method of bringing government services to the people.
Touch screen computer displays are available in three basic systems that allow the monitor to detect a personâ„¢s touch: resistive, capacitive, and surface acoustic wave.
consists of a several layers that detect and register the location of the
touch.The outermost layer is a durable hard coating to protect the more delicate touch sensors and is followed by a glass plate that contains both resistive and conductive properties.This semi-flexible glass plate that is coated with a metallic layers to provide conductance and resistance, each metallic layer is separated with spacers.When the
screen is touched, the touch pushes the conductive layer against the resistive layer making and electrical contact. Voltages are then produced as the analog representation of
the position touched as the x and y coordinates.averaging
algorithm is present in the driving software to eliminate noise from contact bounce. The Personal digital assistants commonly use this technology.The capacitive system can
transmit 90% of the light while the resistive system only transmits 75%, a decrease due to metallic resistive and conductive coatings.
They also also operate through a systems of layers on the display screen.electrical charge is stored in The layering system. As a user touches the display screen, some of the charge is transferred to the user thereby decreasing the
charge on the capacitive layer.The software
calculates the position of the touch from relative differences in charge at each corner. This system system produces a clearer picture over the resistive system due to the decreased number of required layers over the actual screen.It transmits more light.
surface acoustic wave:
Surface acoustic waves are mechanical waves that propagate in
the surface materials of the glass plate. It consists of two transducers (one receiving and one
sending) which are placed along the x and y axes of the glass plate.Reflectors are also
placed on the glass plate to reflect the signal.The
receiving transducer is able to detect a touch event by the disruption of the ultrasonic
wave between the two transducers and can therefore locate the event on the x-y
coordinate plane.The system controller send a 5 MHz
signal to the transmitting transducers that convert the electrical signal into a
surface acoustic wave. the pointing device on contact,
absorbs some of the wave resulting in a change in the received signal.This change is analyzed and digitized into x-y coordinates to locate the position of touch.
system produces a perfect image and is
therefore the best for displaying detailed graphics and 100% transmission of light is possible.

TouchFLO is an user-interface designed by HTC. It is used by dragging your finger up the screen and moving your finger left and right to access common tasks. TouchFLO was used in the HTC Touch Family of Pocket PCs and was succeeded by TouchFLO 3D. HTC is also calling this significantly

TouchFLO technology discovers whether user is touching touch screen with finger or with stylus and reacts appropriately.TouchFLO makes it possible to use applications naturally by touching the screen with finger and moving the content. Apart from that it offers "grab and throw" gesture where content keeps on moving (and slows down) even after user has lifted the finger.The only main serious issue with TouchFLO is text entry, because instead of having a virtual keyboard especially designed to be used with fingers, still a classic Windows Mobile -specific virtual keyboard is used which was used for stylus, not fingers.To improve it even further one would have to add hardware support for multi-touch. This is a novel tecnology that improves user experience significantly.
TouchFLO 3D consists of tabs, and the user switches between tabs by sliding his or her finger along the row of tabs at the bottom of the screen.This interface makes it easier for users to accomplish common tasks using their fingers rather than a stylus.
